Welcome back!
Over a decade ago, this address was a small, hand-built guide to eating gluten free in Portland. The city's gluten free scene has grown into one of the best in the country since then, and it deserved a guide to match. So we brought it back.
Gluten Free Portland is a field guide to 93 restaurants, food carts, bakeries, cafes and taprooms, 42 of them with fully gluten free kitchens. It's organized around the question celiacs ask first: how safe is the kitchen?
How we rate a kitchen
100% gluten free kitchens keep gluten out of the building. Order anything.
Gluten free with care means a shared kitchen with a proven process, like a dedicated fryer or separate prep. Order the marked items and tell your server you're celiac.
Gluten free menus mark their gluten free items, but share a kitchen and fryer. They're great for people avoiding gluten; celiacs should ask before ordering.
How we research
Every listing is cross-checked against celiac review sites, local press, visitor guides, gluten free blogs and the business itself, and each one shows its sources. When a cart moves or a kitchen closes, it goes in the changelog. Anything with thin recent evidence gets a "status check due" tag instead of a guess.
The fine print
Kitchens change their suppliers, fryers and menus. Always confirm your needs with the staff, even at places you trust.
